Referencing photos online, A.E. Van Fleet renders the fantasy of place through color and texture. The Wanderlust series explores the desire to visit Thailand through the practice of painting. 

Inspired by his partner’s heritage and touched by the stories from Thai dramas, Van Fleet longs to experience the culture that has left an emotional impression on him. 

Van Fleet’s creation of unrefined patterns with shoe polish stained masking tape contrasted with vibrant mark-making, result in melancholy yet hopeful works on panel. His paintings navigate the complicated feelings of longing and isolation through the thoughtful use of color and unconventional materials.
